Our newest cabin, Stonesthrow on
Jackson, offers the key to fly fish the Jackson River in Virginia. You
may fish guided or unguided from the lodge. Our guides can take you
float fishing or wading on our property at Stonesthrow and our private
access several miles downriver, as well a several open access points.
Fishing rivers inevitably causes us
to think about origins. Those who have experienced the beautiful big
water of the James
River in Virginia eventually ask about its origin, the Jackson
River. With this in mind we offer those fishing enthusiasts a chance
to experience this exciting river in our newest lodge, Stonesthrow.
From the porch you can literally hit the river with a stone, or a decent
cast.
Stonesthrow offers 3 comfortable bedrooms, 2 baths, a comfortable
living room connected to a convenient kitchen & dining room with a close-up
view of the Jackson (see photos below). The setup works like a house at the beach--your towels
and linens are taken care of and you have access to cooking facilities (gas
stove, oven and grill) with restaurants and grocery stores 10 minutes away
in Covington.
We are located less than 15 minutes from Interstate-64 exit #18, within 25
minutes of Hot Springs, Virginia and 35 minutes from Warm Springs, West
Virginia.
From
Stonesthrow you have several great options to enjoy Virginia's premier
floating trout fishery. Book an Angler's Lane guide for one or two
days to float you down the Jackson and put you on the fish. For
instance, on Day 1 our guide
can launch you from the house after your breakfast, float throughout the day and take out
at our
private landing several miles downstream. On day 2 our guide can start your
float trip upstream on our Landis Driver property several miles below Gathright Dam, allowing you to fish the
Jackson and landing you right at Stonesthrow in time for
your dinner. For those who prefer to walk and wade these three
properties suffice for at least a full day's wade fishing. Fishing addicts can even hit the stream from the lodge at dawn or dusk.
We have other floats on the Jackson as well, and know the areas covered by
the perplexing kings grant laws and
respect the rights of those and other respective landowners; knowing what
you can and cannot do on the Jackson is truly an important part of fishing this
river.
Some fishermen will undoubtedly
enjoy adding on a couple of days at Rivenridge at Piney Forks lodge 90
minutes away. In a 30 minute drive from Stonesthrow we can take you to
the special regulation Hidden Valley section of the Jackson above Lake
Moomaw or to other streams in the area. To enjoy fishing
in the Jackson river basin, the options from Stonesthrow are numerous.
One can expect to catch, brown, and rainbow trout on this trip
with an occasional brook. We also enjoy tangling with the Jackson's
fall fish, the miniature tarpon, which can bend the rod over and often exceed 2 pounds.
 Imagine
tangling into a big brown right as you pull into your cabin on at
Stonesthrow on the Jackson River!
